U.S. Department of Commerce Honors Defibtech for Creating Jobs Through Exports
Connecticut-based company’s performance part of national export growth trend

Middletown, Conn. — July 12, 2010 — For its strong performance in pursuing export markets and creating jobs, Defibtech received the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Achievement Certificate from U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., today.

A leading designer and manufacturer of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), Defibtech was one of four companies from Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District to receive the honor. AEDs can revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest, which strikes as many as 450,000 Americans each year.

Defibtech President Gintaras Vaisnys said that exports account for almost half of Defibtech’s sales. “I am particularly proud that Defibtech AEDs that we export around the world are made right here in Connecticut.”

Today, Defibtech AEDs can be found in the United States, Canada and Europe; in China, India, the Middle East and other parts of Asia; and in Australia, South America and Africa. “Markets across the globe have been extremely receptive to Defibtech AEDs,” said Gianfranco Buchbinder, Defibtech’s vice president of international sales, who has been responsible for building the company’s network of international distributors. “We expect our success to continue.”

Defibtech’s strong performance abroad is part of a national trend of export growth. Last week, President Barack Obama announced that exports for the first four months of 2010 were up 17 percent over the same period last year. The Commerce Department reported exports totaling $148.8 billion in April 2010 alone.

Vaisnys said the company has aggressively pursued markets abroad since the company was established in 1999. “Defibtech AEDs became very popular, both in the United States and abroad, because they set new standards for ease of use, reliability, and affordability,” he said. AEDs are best placed in areas where large numbers of people gather — locations such as public buildings, workplaces, schools, churches, health clubs, airports, and hotels. “By being readily available at these locations, Defibtech AEDs have been used in thousands of rescue situations,” Vaisnys stated.

After presenting the certificates, Rep. DeLauro met with Vaisnys and Defibtech International Account Manager Mimi Egan, as well as other company leaders, to discuss business issues and to learn more about how they have been able to excel.

“The representatives and leaders I met with today have a huge impact on our Connecticut economy,” Rep. DeLauro said. “I commend our local companies for their leadership and their good business sense, and I look forward to supporting them in any way I can.”
